Michele Barry, senior associate dean of global health and director of the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, has been elected to the governing council of the National Academy of Medicine.
The National Academy of Medicine, comprising 2,400 elected members, is one of three academies that make up the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in the United States. The National Academies are private, nonprofit institutions that work outside government to provide objective advice on matters of science, technology, and health.
Membership signifies outstanding professional achievement and commitment to volunteer service in the activities of the NAM and the National Academies. Barry has been a member since 2002.
The council to which Barry has been elected is the NAM’s governing and oversight body. Councilors are voted for and elected by NAM members. Barry’s three-year term begins July 1, 2026 and runs through June 30, 2029.
“It is an immense and humbling honor to have been nominated and elected to the governing council. During these troubling times for science, I hope to contribute to NAM’s strong voice upholding evidence-based science,” Barry said.
