Global Health Opportunities for Medical Students
Through classroom teaching, electives, events, the Medical Scholars Research Program, and global health fellowships, we provide medical students the opportunity to explore combining their interests in medicine with health needs globally.

Fellowships and Learning Opportunities
Scholarly Concentration in Global Health
This concentration exposes students to the primary issues in the field of Global Health and equips them with tools to begin addressing these issues through hands-on field research.
Global Health Medical Student Research Fellowship
This fellowship is a joint effort by CIGH and the Stanford MedScholars Program. It offers up to two medical students a year funding and support to dedicate one year to global health research. It includes an on-campus element as well as an extended period of time at a global field site conducting research.
Global Health Media Fellowship
Open to medical students in the U.S. committed to a career in global health. The Fellow learns how reporting on global health issues can impact health and human rights efforts, foundation and government health assistance, and individual health choices.
Global Child Health Travel SCholarship
For Stanford pediatric trainees and clinical medical students who are committed to improving the quality of life for children around the world.
Research Methods Workshop
A two-day seminar for physician residents, fellows and medical students interested in developing research skills applicable to global health.
GSB Seed Internship
The Graduate School of Business supports interns to work closely with talented entrepreneurs in Africa and South Asia. Gain high-level work experience while making a social impact in emerging markets.
Chi-Li Pao Foundation Master of Public Health Fellowship
Stanford CARE and the Chi-Li Pao Foundation have partnered with The Chinese University of Hong Kong to offer 1-2 outstanding Stanford medical students the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree in Public Health from The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care.

Student-Led Organization for global Health
Stanford medical students created the Student-led Organization for Global Health to increase awareness of international health issues by educating at home and assisting abroad. SOGH students facilitate participation in issues surrounding international health through travel fellowships and NGO networking.
Global Health Club
The Stanford Global Health Club hosts a monthly seminar series, where members of the Stanford community can come together to learn, share, and collaborate on approaches to improve global health. Organized by Stanford PhD students and postdocs, seminars are open to attendees of all levels of experience and disciplines.

Vongai Christine Mlambo, a 4th year medical student, researched “Cost Effectiveness of Cardiac Surgery for Rheumatic Heart Disease” in Rwanda for her fellowship.
“The reason I wanted to become a physician is to expand healthcare infrastructure for non-communicable diseases in Southern Africa,” she says. “To learn from and work alongside cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons on the ground will be an honor and the takeaways, invaluable.”
