Two reports issued this October by the Lancet Countdown project frame an urgent call to action on climate change around the intersection of climate and health. The timely reports were developed in the lead-up to the COP26 conference in Glasgow. They identify that key trends from previous Lancet Countdown Reports are “getting worse and exacerbating already existing health and social inequities,” resulting in a “code red” for a healthy future.

“Code Red is not even a hot enough color for this report, ” said CIGH Director Dr. Michele Barry in an AP article about the Countdown report. Compared to the last Lancet report, she adds, “this one is the sobering realization that we’re going completely in the wrong direction.”

The Center for Innovation in Global Health is committed building awareness of the risks climate change pose to global health, and many Global Health Faculty Fellows are doing important work to both raise awareness and identify solutions.
