CIGH Global Scholars Program

Independent Away

Program Overview

The CIGH Global Scholars (Independent Away) Program supports residents, fellows, and faculty who are committed to working overseas in low resource settings. Global Scholars are not mere observers in the host location. The Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health provides funding for trainees who will be an asset to the staff at the receiving location and support or add to the services provided. Funding for faculty interested in developing a sustainable site is also available.

Any Stanford resident or fellow may apply for an independent overseas elective rotation in any specialty for a duration of 6-weeks. The trainee or the trainee’s advisor must have an existing, long-standing relationship at the proposed site and there must be an onsite mentor for the application to be considered. Stanford faculty involved in overseas site development may also be considered for independent funding and must commit 2-6 weeks towards site development.
