Please join the Stanford Human and Planetary Health initiative for a dialogue hosted by Desiree LaBeaud, MD, MS, Professor of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Stanford with Anna Stewart-Ibarra, PhD. 

Anna is the Executive Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research in Uruguay, and an expert on climate and health in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her research has focused on understanding climate, environmental and social drivers of vector-borne diseases. For more than 14 years, Anna has collaborated with academic and government institutions in the region to conduct community-based social-ecological, epidemiological, and modeling studies. 

Desiree is a physician-scientist who, in close collaboration with impacted communities, has devoted much of her efforts to better understanding the risk factors, including climate change, trash, and other environmental stressors, for arboviral infections such as dengue fever.

Anna and Desiree first met in 2018, have collaborated on several infectious disease research projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, and recently published a book: Infectious Disease Work in a Changing World: People, Pathogens and Partnerships.  Anna and Desiree will discuss the power that international partnerships hold in addressing planetary health challenges, including a Q&A with audience members. A reception will be held following the event.
