DEADLINE: Jan. 8, 2025
Position Supervisor: Jamie Hansen, Global Health Communications Manager
Position Title: Global Health Video and Digital Storytelling Assistant
Position Description:
Stanford’s Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH) shares knowledge, equips leaders, and builds teams to address urgent global health challenges and achieve health equity. We are the hub for all things Global Health at Stanford, and we’ve launched a new program, Stanford African Scholars in Global Health (SASH), which this position will support. SASH supports mid-career physicians from African countries to travel to Stanford for six weeks, gaining a specific skill set identified by the African scholars as a need to improve health outcomes at their academic institution. Physicians will then return to their home countries to conduct a year-long clinical improvement project focused on the skill set they identified. The first scholars arrive in January 2025.
The Global Health Video and Digital Storytelling assistant will highlight the perspectives and expertise of SASH scholars between late January and June of 2025, with a possibility to renew for the fall of 2025. This position will help film and edit 3- to 5-minute video interviews highlighting the perspectives of the scholars and their mentors, along with shorter form videos and slide reels highlighting the scholars’ experiences for social media. They will work closely with the scholars, the SASH team, and Stanford’s Global Health Communications Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity for a student passionate about global health, health equity, and storytelling. Their work will showcase an innovative new program while fostering multi-cultural understanding and learning around critical global health issues.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Work alongside hired videographer to help film two-camera interviews
- Independently capture “B-roll” on campus (work with Communications Manager to identify needed footage)
- Edit video footage into a series of four short (3 to 5 minute) videos highlighting the perspectives of scholars and their mentors on their area of global health expertise
- Assist with telling scholar stories over social media – Attend scholar events to capture photos, videos, and quotes, create slideshows and videos for LinkedIn and Instagram highlighting their perspectives.
- Develop a guide for scholars to create “day in the life” accounts of their time at Stanford and assist the scholars as needed in executing the footage; edit footage for social media
- Help collect content via email and text for scholars, help organize the content and footage in Box or Google Drive.
Position Length: The selected applicant will begin work in late January 2025, with the hope that they would continue the position through June 2025, with a possibility to extend through the fall of 2025.
