Job Description 


The Bay Area Global Health Alliance (the Alliance) has been growing rapidly and is seeking a student with a strong interest in global health innovation and equity to support communications, administrative, and member stewardship activities as our Communications Intern. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Communications and Membership Associate to fulfill duties essential for the day-to-day operations of the Alliance and amplify the work of our member organizations by developing and sharing communications and supporting administrative activities critical to member stewardship. This position will be remote for the foreseeable future. The intern will spend between 5–10 hours per week on Alliance activities. The Alliance is seeking a student who can commit to this role for a minimum of six months; preferably one year.

Title and Description of Services

  • The Communications Intern will report directly to the Communications and Membership Associate and will work with other members of the Secretariat, supporting communications, administrative, and member stewardship activities for the Alliance.

Key Tasks and Activities 

  • Support Communications and Membership Associate with communications activities, including updating the website, posting on social media, collecting items for newsletters, and proofreading + link checking newsletter drafts.
  • Manage administrative tasks to support membership stewardship, including maintaining the Alliance Member Directory and updating files in the shared Google drive.
  • Support the Alliance as it increases utilization of the Salesforce Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) tool. Example activities may include entering and uploading data, generating standard reports, reconciling data discrepancies and supporting data analysis. 
  • Manage administrative tasks related to regular Alliance meetings, including creating Doodle polls for scheduling purposes and editing meeting notes.
  • Edit webinars/event recordings and create short video clips featuring event content for social media.
  • Other similar duties as assigned.

Timeframe and Payment Terms

  • Communications Intern will spend between 5–10 hours per week on Alliance activities, not to exceed 10 hours.
  • Communications Intern will commit to this role for a minimum of six months; preferably one year.
  • Communications Intern has been approved for an hourly pay of $20/hour.
  • Communications Intern will bill on a monthly basis during the project timeframe and will be paid as quickly as possible upon receipt of invoice.

Required knowledge, skills + experience 

  • Communications and writing skills (especially for social media).
  • Basic video editing and basic graphic design skills.
  • Experience using and maintaining websites and social media platforms, including analytic tools for benchmarking and evaluation.
  • Passion for global health and advancing equity. 
  • Curiosity and an eagerness to learn new skills.
  • Experience working with Salesforce or another CRM is preferred, but not required.
