Program Overview

Stanford’s Global Child Health team is committed to improving the health and well-being of children around the world through medical training, multi-disciplinary research, and improved clinical care for the underserved. We are equipping the next generation of physician-leaders in global pediatrics.

 

Education

Training in global pediatrics at Stanford includes opportunities for everyone from undergraduates to post-doctoral fellows and faculty. Our core training initiative is the Global Health Scholarly Concentration for pediatric residents.

 

Research

Polio. Arboviruses. Cancer. Newborn health. Gender-based violence.  Our group is actively investigating questions about how to reduce the burden of disease and improve the health of children around the world. Our research also includes parasites, child nutrition and development, educational interventions, and novel diagnostics.

While our work ranges from laboratory work exploring the efficacy of measles vaccines in Mexico to community-based interventions to reduce adolescent pregnancy in Kenya, we target the health of underserved children in low-resource settings.

 

Clinical Care

Our faculty have led the way in building capacity of hospitals and clinicians in other countries to improve the health and wellbeing of children. And our trainees have been awarded Mary Duke Biddle Scholarships and the David A. Zlotnick, MD Memorial Scholarship.
